Buddhism is the religious group that believes, preaches and practices the principles of Gautama Buddha. Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism was a prince born in Kapilavastu. After seeing the sufferings of the people in the surrounding world, he renounced the kingdom and all worldly pleasures and determined to find the solution for all problems which is the eternal truth. He sat under a Bodhi tree meditating and attained his goal which made him Buddha. Buddhism refers to the Karma, Cycle of Samsara and Rebirth. Buddha’s teachings which provided solutions to the sufferings are described in the four noble truths and the noble eight fold path. Theravada and Mahayana are the main branches of Buddhism.
