K-12 is the education from Kindergarten to the twelfth grade which is the sum total of primary education and secondary education. The student finishes the twelfth grade by the age of seventeen or eighteen. The term is used in countries like United States, Canada and Australia where they provide free primary and secondary education. Education is almost compulsory in Canada and now private K-12 schools are also in operation. In United States also, private institutions are common.
