Dentistry is the science related to the teeth and its associated structures. Dental assistants, dental technicians and dental hygienists assist the dentist in performing dental care for the patients. In the ancient days, dentistry was not a profession and unskilled people did dental treatments. Now dentistry has been considered as a specialty occupation and highly sophisticated equipments are used in dental treatment. Rather than the mere “pulling out” of teeth, dentistry has expanded to include replacement of teeth, restoration with tooth colored materials, implant fixing, whitening of teeth, surgical treatments and cosmetic dental treatments. A dentist can do a great deal to improve the appearance of the face. Maxillofacial surgical techniques are employed to correct several facial deformities.
